On Vimy Ridge Day, Friday, April 9, 2010, the Government of Canada will honour and recognize all the Canadians and Newfoundlanders who served in the First World War (1914-1918). John “Jack” Babcock, Canada’s last known veteran of that war, passed away in February. He served with approximately 640,000 other Canadians and Newfoundlanders. Every Canadian has a chance to pay tribute to those who served. All you need is a piece of paper and a red crayon. In a matter of days, you will walk or drive along streets and see red poppies in the windows of homes, businesses, and schools.
