The AMAZING Pen Pal Photo-Journal from Campobello Island Consolidated School
Testament to Canada’s diversity, there are beautiful differences in student illustrations from coast to coast, but also a compelling emotional unity. Ultimately, each student was able to own the words of the story in their own way, and then to share their interpretation visually through what they drew.
Stories beget stories. Ignited by the imaginary plight of Jo, Murdock, Merry and Christopher, students shared their own stories back with me, and no class did this better than the New Brunswick Christmas Wind class from Wilsons Beach on Campobello Island who mailed me a copy of the amazing photo-journal pen pal letter they’d created of their beautiful island.
Students in every corner of Canada have now been able to take a little journey to Campobello in their minds by virtue of the book these students created and mailed off with their trading cards.
